Trophy Heroes Re-United At Memorable Keys Park Evening

The legendary Hednesford Town FA Trophy winning squad were reunited at Keys Park on Friday night as the majority of the team, famous 3-2 victors over favourites Canvey Island at Villa Park, came together to reminisce exactly a decade on. The evening, run by the Hednesford Town Football Club Supporters Association, saw the Chase Suite buzzing in anticipation as host BBC Radio WM’s Daz Hale ran through the many moments of the winning campaign with Darren Simkin, Les Hines, manager of the time Barry Powell, goalkeeper Ryan Young, captain Steve Palmer and goal scoring hero Chris Brindley reflecting on an achievement that may never be repeated. HTFCSA Joint-Chairman Scott Smith was over the moon with the reaction from the assembled room of supporters, officials, management and players to the reunion, sponsored by Carlsberg, as the squad reprised the lifting of the FA Trophy, kindly supplied for one night only by the FA.

‘The evening was a great success for all involved. It was fantastic to get so many of the squad back together and the reaction to the footage of the final, namely Chris Brindley’s own goal as well as his late winner in the final, was superb. ‘I would like to thank all those involved in putting the night on, Steve Palmer was a great help in contacting a lot of the players and the support from Daz Hale at Radio WM, the FA and Carlsberg really helped to make the night a success.’

£400 was raised for the HTFCSA with supporters taking the opportunity en masse to have their photo taken with the Trophy and the picture of the squad lifting the cup again will live long in the memory.
