Workington v Shaw Lane in doubt... (a midweek trip to Cumbria would be nice for them...)

From Nov 2016 when we'd just made one of our management changes last season...

Yeah thought that would happen. I wish him well apart from our game there later in the season. Hands off our squad too!

Didn't he being in James Wren? He deserves a lot of credit for that, but also, uh oh...

I don't understand football. Sutton Coldfield sacked Toothy last season, presumably because the results weren't good enough. Yet now they're expecting him to save them? If they didn't trust him to do it last year why do they think he'll do it this time?

I think the only members of our squad that will be heading to Sutton will be ones that we don’t want. Sutton are on the slide .

Not surprised that Tooth has gone back, but I wish him well.

I’m sure that Stoke fans are thinking something similar tonight.

Once our game was called off, we decided to go to Ashton V Stafford as one of our group is a Stafford fan. Absolute shambles. Despite Ashton saying all morning that the game was defintiely on, no problem etc etc, the ref arrived and called it off just before 2. Apparently both teams were happy to play....

Thread drift here I'm afraid:

So Plan C saw us at Maine Road v 1874 Northwich, two divisions down from us I think: the old NW Counties League, Hallmark Security League these days. Late drama as Northwich won 3-2, great game and a few nice conversations with Northwich fans who recalled games between us and the old Vics. Maine Road is an interesting club. They don't pay players so mostly bring through young players who then move on. Very committed bunch of volunteers and a nice set up.

Apparently even most of the comittee don't go to the game when City are at home! I'm assuming your comment was tongue in cheek, Lee!

From my reliable source at SFC, Stour v Alty was eventually called off at 1430(ish) yesterday after the ref had twice postponed pitch inspections from the originally-planned 1330

To be fair, the weather did take an unexpected turn for the worse (I was in Wolves at about 1200 when the snow started) but nonetheless the rule about inspections taking place early enough for the away team (and their fans) not to have a wasted journey seems to have gone out of the window

200 Alty fans were already there by the time the game was eventually postponed

Shambles isn't confined to our level though, Rochdale v Southend was called off at 1330, again the away team and many fans would have already been there by then...

The forecast for yesterday was for a gradual improvement in conditions during the afternoon ( same as today, but my lad's 2.30 kick off was called off at 1pm after an inspection at noon saw the pitch passed fit. it's chucking it down now when it was supposed to be dry this afternoon.
At present there are many pitches that have taken plenty of water but the real issue is weather conditions deteriorating unexpectedly and leading to late postponements . clubs get hammered for not taking account of weather forecasts.

I think yesterday was unfortunate. the weather was supposed to improve during the afternoon. Had the forecast been dire then the games at Ashton and Stourbridge may gave been called off earlier, but perhaps their pitches were just about playable in the morning and with the prospect of a drier afternoon they gambled on their pitches being fit a few hours later. I was surprised to see Shaw Lane play as they have lost a few games to waterlogged pitches when most clubs have got away with it on the same day.
