That's a ridiculous statement from the NPL.

"appeals agreed" - what's that supposed to mean?

I agree that is a meaningless statement.

They have to confirm the constitution at the AGM but the FA can still override it if on going appeals are successful, but yes we all know what the outcome will be.
However until they pull their finger out and announce a decision Rob is still in no mans land on player signings.

Been waiting 9 days now Jackie for the FA to decide on our appeal
Nothing short of scandalous and totally inept from a so called football governing body.

One would 'assume' that the Club will hear something in the next few days - once the League Officials have recovered from their weekend jolly and realise they still have a job to do.
Certainly they fully deserve a vote of 'no confidence'.

I'm sure both our Secretary and Manager are constantly chasing them up for a final decision!

It's killing our season off before we've kicked a ball, most of the best players must have got fixed up by now.

Clearly needs a resolution without further delay. Over the Chase however they have 5 management staff and only 4 players signed and they know which league they are in.

I've just realised anyway it'll be another month before we get an answer to our appeal. THEY'RE ALL IN RUSSIA ON A JOLLY.

Maybe if England lose their next two games they'll come home "early...."

So, today is the day of reckoning - let's hope the FA know what they are doing and use their common sense!!

Fleet Town have lost their appeal today and their website says they have moved leagues 7 times in 17years.
I fear for our chances if the FA are that bloody minded.Still you never know.

My take on this is:

- this whole process took way too long
- the FA have correctly applied a bad rule

The situation would be handled with much less disruption if they promoted the losing play off club with the best record from within the league where the vacancy occurs. But given the rules as they stand, they took the right decision.

For me, our appeal wasn't based on a very strong case, we seem to be closer geographically to the NPL clubs than either Coalville or Kings Lynn but I'd be interested to see the FA's reasoning behind the decision. I can't find it online yet.

Now being on the boundary of two leagues, the next few years will probably throw this up again. Some guaranteed stability would be helpful. But that would have been the case whether we moved or not.

I do wonder how much impact all this really had on the departures of some players or whether other factors were at play as well.

Danny Glover's farewell tweet included "with what's gone on" which makes me believe he would have left regardless of what league we were in, and regardless of when we were put into it.

Can't see what all the fuss is about,I know the FA haven't helped but Smithy is a northern league expert
he shouldn't find it hard to get decent players
we haven't had a poll on this

The problem is, S, that very few people know how many hours the management team spent talking to players about joining us for our SCL campaign and signing them up to play for us (whilst losing good players to NPL clubs who are now rivals), which was the professional thing for them to do, only to then have to start again from square 1.5 because of the uncaring actions of Shaw Lane AFC and the "couldn't care less" response from the FA

But in his comments after the appeal outcome was published, Smudger said in as many words "let's all pull together and get on with it", so let's...

Shouldn’t read too much into odds at this stage but we amongst the favourites to go down

Given how things have gone over the summer I would have to agree!

I wouldn't pay much attention to that oddschecker page for two reasons:

1. There's no odds on Basford United, Gainsborough Trinity or North Ferriby United
2. Anyone putting money on Ashton United at 80/1 is really wasting their money, seeing as they don't play in the Northern Premier League anymore!

Try this one
https://sports.betway.com/en/sports/evt/2737246

Also, these are odds for outright winner of the league, not to get relegated. There would be a different set of odds on teams to go down; similarly, there would be a different set of odds for teams to make the playoffs etc

On 12th April, I sent the following email to the Northern Premier League:

Please could I have an explanation as to how and why Hednesford Town's bank holiday fixtures are against North Ferriby (twice) and Farsley Celtic (twice)
The usual process of arranging local matches for these dates has completely passed you by in our case. Or have you just given us fixtures intended for Shaw Lane before their withdrawal?

No reply. I sent it again on 19th July, 26th July and 2nd August. No reply.

I sent an email to the FA and Evo-Stik on 8th August to make a complaint about being ignored. No reply from either.

I sent another email to the Northern Premier League today and finally I have had a reply. It was this:

Hi Lee,

Many thanks for contacting the NPL with your concerns which have been passed on as all feedback is appreciated.

As a semi-professional league with finite resources, staff and volunteers our ability to respond to queries for comment from the public during the close season and in fact at all times is limited.

We also have a duty to represent all our clubs and where there is issue or dispute it should be brought to the attention of league for action or otherwise via our member clubs.

If you still have concerns over the scheduling of your fixtures please make them known to your club who can make representations on your behalf.

Best wishes and good luck for the coming season.

Dave Watters

EVO-STIK League media manager and press officer

So, despite asking a fair, legitimate and straightforward question four times, you get a typically vague reply from the NPL. Skirting around the main question by answering in generalities and using a lot of classic media filling to pad out the email. Mr. Watters could have kept it short, saved himself a lot of time and still got the message across:

Hi Lee

Cheers for your email. It’s gone in the outbox.

We’re non-league if you didn’t know already.

We only deal with stuff when it’s REALLY important.

Any issues, speak to someone who cares at your club.

Cheers

Going off on a slight tangent, and tying in with the Twitter spat we had with the NPL over advertising friendlies, did you also know that we’ve only had ONE story published on the NPL website in the last six-and-a-bit months (when R&L agreed to stay)? Runcorn Linnets have had two stories published in the last eleven days! Anyone else coming round to the idea that we’re just not wanted?
