That's because he has too much time on his hands at the moment!

It does make me chuckle when old dears complain about £2 coins being too big.

Remember half-crowns?

(Is that the kind of thing you had in mind? :-D )

Gorgeous weather at the moment isn't it, unless you live in Devon.

I've been handed the poisoned chalice that is the position of manager of Bilbrook North under 15s. The first training session was last night and most of it was spent having my ear bent by parents on topics including selecting inconvenient times for them to get their kids to training, the state of the training balls, the fact that the weather is too hot to run around in and the need to arrange lifts for kids to and from away fixtures.
I did arrive home wondering who was doing who a favour.

I used to help out the Manager when my son played under 10's to under 15's, you'll find the parents will be more trouble than the kids.
He now plays in the Cannock Chase Sunday League Division 3 for a Pub team (not TNS ;) ) and they asked me to help manage them. No I didn't.

I can recommend Dr Andy Cale's book on coaching, tells you how to get to know the kids intimately (no, not in that way....) and will leave the parents thinking you're the next Gareth Southgate.

Worth investing 1p plus postage on a second-hand copy

Having managed the (aforementioned) Champions of Wales to a title or three and worked for the FA in both England and Qatar he's landed on another nice job now...

People make coaching and managing a lot more complicated than it really is.

Just tell them to score more goals than the opposition do, job done.

"Kick the ball into the back of the net"

That's your resume/CV for the FA then, for when Sir Gareth retires....

:-D

About sixty odd years ago I played in the Walsall minor league and a member of our management team I think he was one of the Bullases from Chadsmoor used to say just pass it to one of our guys and when you get near goal give it some wellie.
We won the league!

That little kid in the crowd at the Colombia game with the "score a goal harry kane" banner has got such a bright future.

Ron, who I think may have passed away recently, used to take our Soccer Schools in the summer holidays. He always used to recite these words when anyone picked the ball up: "Are you a goalkeeper son? No didn't think so, put that ball down on the floor and use your feet. Only goalkeepers use their hands."

Roy "Chubby" Brown once said this about exercise:

"If God wanted you to touch your toes he'd have put them on your tits."

Hilarious but true! Maybe a barn door behind the goal would help!

Nothing football related at all - totally irrelevant but the song just goes with the picture taken on Dartmoor today, sung by a beautiful lady that some of our 'senior' posters may remember!
