For those who head to Keys Park via Churchbridge, a few more obstacles to negotiate before you get to the ground.....

Well, I did warn you on the Bamber Bridge previews thread but Lee took no notice and got stuck!

Worth its own thread now as it's going to get a lot worse before it ever gets better....

It's not clear from that (or maybe it is, I've only skim-read it!) but part of the plan is dualling the road from the McDonalds roundabout to the tip roundabout - they did all the groundworks a couple of years ago but since then the grass has grown all over it again!

Better recommended route from Shareshill is "the old road" ie through Wedges Mills, up Avon Road, then follow signs for Rugeley and turn right at Hill Top.

Or cycle in

 :P

Grrr - those pesky roadworks are bad enough already - adding 20 minutes each way to from work going via Cannock.

Since I've been up here, they have dug up the side of the road between the tip and Ronald McDonalds twice - I heard it was to see if the old canal had settled enough to dual carriageway the road - guess it has now!

The really clever way past/round all of it is via Hatherton to the A5, problem is if too many people find out about it there'll be delays on the single track road!

(See Del, we have them up here too!)

I got stuck in traffic for the Bamber Bridge game and nearly missed the kick off so I went home via Stafford Lane, Huntington, the road that goes to the right of Littleton Colliery ( or where it used to be) , past Cannock Cricket Club onto the A5 , then Gailey, Brewood and Codsall.
Took 10 minutes longer than normal as it took ages to turn right onto the A5.
Bit of a nuisance , but I wouldn’t like to get stuck every day like commuters must do.

Why don't you go back via the fire station ,down the Avon road passed Asda and on to the A5 at Longford.
It's a bit stop startish but much quicker than the Littleton run and a lot safer.
Don't like crossing the A5 at Tumbledown dangerous!

… and all this so that we can "put Cannock on the map" with shops selling jeans at £150 a pair.

(… while the Town Centre is dying a slow and painful death...)

The world has gone completely mad.

Hey up, there's competition for Mill Green!

Oldbury's clearly the place to be!!

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/loc ... t-village/

Might mean there won't be as much traffic heading for Hednesford/Cannock!

"Fed-up drivers have been urged to be patient...."

I wonder if those doing the planning, and urging the fed-up drivers to be patient, live in the area....

Look out. Competition!

https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/bus ... dge-gorge/

And I thought Mill Green was supposed to be the only mall within a 50-mile radius.... (well apart from Merry Hill, and about 6 others.....)

We're not going to be able to get anywhere near Keys Park, with all the traffic heading for McArthurGlen and Cannock Town Centre....

Latest Press Release from Staffs County Council (don't know if this is yet in the public domain or embargoed, but I have my sources.....)

£15million road improvement works for major retail development progresses

The latest phase of a major road scheme to provide access to a £160 million retail development and improve traffic flow on the roads around will begin next week.
The works being carried out by the county council will pave the way for the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands in Cannock, which is set to be completed in 2020.
McArthurGlen has committed £15million to the improvement scheme, taking place at Churchbridge and the A460 Eastern Way.
On Wednesday July 17 work will begin to install drainage for the site, as well as installing a new gas main and diverting an existing one. To carry out this phase of the works a temporary full closure of A5190 Lichfield Road, between the Biffa landfill roundabout and the Devon Road junction is necessary. The full closure will be in effect from next Wednesday until Monday September 2. Clear diversion signs will be in place.
Hayes Way will remain closed at its junction with the A460 throughout the works period.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said: “The next phase of works involve essential utility and drainage installation for the site and unfortunately it is necessary to put a full closure of this section of the Lichfield Road in place.
“The team has made every effort to carry out this phase over the school holiday period as it tends to be quieter on the roads. We would again like to thanks people for their patience while these works take place.
“The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands in Cannock is a hugely important development for Staffordshire and the wider region. It will create jobs and bring visitors into Cannock, boosting the local economy. Before this happens, the infrastructure needs to be in place and we are making every effort to get works completed as soon as possible.”
Cannock Chase Council granted planning approval for a designer outlet at Mill Green in September 2016 following extensive consultations with the local community. On-site construction of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands in Cannock started last summer. When it opens in 2020, this new landmark retail destination and community hub will create 1,000 jobs for the local area.
The road improvements will include:
· Access and improvements on the A460 Eastern Way, Churchbridge interchange and Orbital Way.
· Widening the A460 Eastern Way to a dual carriageway and creating slip roads to the designer outlet.
· A new underpass and access to the site from the A460, new footpaths and cycle ways.
· Widening both the eastern and western A460 legs at the Churchbridge junction to provide two lanes in both directions
· Widening Orbital Way on the eastbound side, improving the Lodge Lane and Churchbridge roundabouts and installing new toucan crossings on Eastern Way.

From a skim-read it looks like the clever way of getting from Churchbridge to Keys Park by TR at the Biffa roundabout then left through the "Tesco estate" to Hill Street is now scuppered until September - so the best way would probably be to go through Wedges Mills, up Avon Road (excuse queues) then follow the "old A460" ie until it becomes the East Cannock Road, then either via Hill Top or Lower Road to get to the Cross Keys.

It's almost as though they don't want people to realise it's in or near Cannock....
