Mark Gayle is one of this week’s featured players in the SPL’s ‘They played in the Southern Football League’ series

“One of the best goalkeepers in non-league football during the early 2000s” - well, he got plenty of practice in with some of the defenders in front of him at that time!
Yes, he was a great keeper. And as with Camps, he liked a red card or two during his Pitmen career :-)

This weeks 'They Played in the Southern Football League' features Pedro 'Pele' Monteiro:

Don't think that's him in the picture though. And we weren't a Conference North club when he played for us. Really liked him when he was here - he and his wife were thoroughly nice people to talk to

Ex-Pitmen absolutely everywhere in this one - Asa Charlton, Big Kev, Romario Martin & Wayne Dyer (plus Jose Veiga)

Jimmy Rodwell is an early casualty of a change of ownership at Sunderland. I see that the new chairman there is just 23 years old 😮

Is it me, or does he look Tim Allen when he’s morphing into Santa in ‘The Santa Clause’ in that photo?

Can the content be posted on here?

I remember Glover scoring our goal in the away leg of the Southern League Cup Final at Waterlooville back in the 80s. A 25 yard thunderbolt I recall.

Here it is Perton but you may have to join group to see content, free and well worth it, lots of ex players on there.

Another group with lots of HTFC content is this one. Lots of ex players partaking on here as well.

Thanks

Jimmy Houston on the picture was a future caretaker manager - I think after Paddy Page's ill-fated spell with us.

i have a vague recollection of the cash crisis, but I was about 13 at the time so a lot of it went over my head. Interesting to see that the weekly wage bill was £200 (quoted in the Cannock Advertiser at the time) and I seem to remember that adult admission to games was probably less than £1.

I do remember that when I started going to games in 1977 it was 30p for adults and 15p for concessions.

Durrell on the mark for Wrexham last night. They're quite well-placed, on and off the field!

Spotters badge Keith, Ged was at Hyde United at the time in the UniBond League. Some great players in that side; the giant keeper Paul Gothard was one of the best keepers in non-league for years, Mark Gardiner (front row right) was a superb player for Macclesfield and Northwich, whilst Dave Leworthy (front row left) was one of the most prolific strikers in the Conference in the 90s for Dover, Kingstonian and Rushden. Oh, and there was Lee Hughes as well.

...yet England lost 2-0!

I think Paul Webb from Kiddy captained the side that night
