Fascinating (if you're easily fascinated!) to see how many Premier League and Championship players will be in Russia, not playing for England...

Wonderful line from Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri: "I know that football isn't important, but it's the most important of the not-important things."

We'll certainly miss their National Anthem!

The jockeying for position starts. I'd say the BBC have the advantage so far, England will still be in it for their first two games...

They're wanting to know on TalkSPORT who should be the "surprise inclusion"... so I've told them....

I hope Southgate applies more logic than the England cricket selectors have!

England squad numbers revealed:

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foo ... 82636.html

You can prove anything with statistics. I love how they're trying to prove that nos 1-11 will start.

They'd do well to look back to 1966....

What concerns me is that, while I can still tell you the squad for 1966, there are some people on this photo I can't name!

Undoubted highlight of the World Cup, Jonathan Pearce and Martin Keown wondering why the ref has disallowed a Uruguay goal when the ball has hit the side-netting.

I mean, they only have the best seats in the house and a monitor to help them....

I think that was the plan...

England v Colombia is on ITV

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44647498

So we get more of Tyldesley and Hoddle (and heading off to an ad break right after the anthems, thus killing the build-up, as is their wont....)

… and it's on BBC so we don't head to the ad breaks right after the anthems, half- and full-time whistles and even those at half-time in extra-time and before the penalties!

Don't recall seeing a replay of this save, as it was quickly followed by their goal (and as I didn't hang around for post-match analysis when it was all over) - but what a worldie!! ;)

Fascinating this, note that there are some people whose main focus at the end of it all is to wheel out those backboards against which the post-match interviews take place!

Radio WM spoke to a travel agent from Kinver about how England fans could still get out there, (even though the expert Simon Calder was advising against it yesterday, not least because there are no hotels!)

She said it "will cost about £1523"

That's just an approximate figure then....?
