After a very testing journey we eventually arrived at the ground about ten to eight thinking we had missed the start so we were pleasantly surprised to find the start had been delayed by fifteen minutes has the Hednesford kit hadn’t arrived.
After the first half I was thinking I wished we hadn’t arrived either.!
We started off well enough and had two clear cut chances but missed both.
Has the game progressed they looked physically stronger than us our midfield at times being overrun.
They took the lead when a break down our right resulted in a low ball being crossed from the bye line which was easily converted.
A nasty incident took place towards the end of the half when one of their players appeared to elbow Daniels on the head it resulted I believe in him being taken to hospital and their trainer stood in for ours
The referee only yellow carded the Coalville offender and that I’m afraid summed up the referee for the evening he was to put it bluntly useless.
Half time and we looked out of it.
They were physically stronger, well motivated and frankly better organised so it was no surprise when they got a second from a far post corner which was headed home by an unmarked player.
We made several changes after that and gradually got into the game.
Mainly because instead of playing it narrow we finally had some width with Abadaki on.
He started to terrorise their defence and we sensed a come back was on.
After almost non stop pressure Glover pulled one back with a close range shot and the siege of the Alamo started.
It was during this period that their player who had elbowed Daniels was sent of for a late tackle much to the joy of the large travelling group of our supporters.
For the last twenty minutes we pulverised them with their keeper making one world class save and K Wells heading against the post with the last effort of the game.
At the end the our team team were applauded off for a valiant tho fruitless effort.
If only we had started like we finished this game would have been ours.
Hey oh it was not to be so we move on to Stourbridge on Saturday.
Man of the match is very difficult but I’ll give it to Abadaki who came on second half and almost changed the course of the game.
Officials quite appalling without doubt some of the worst I have ever seen.
On one ocassion we had a player breaking thru their line was then blatantly pulled back by a defender right in front of both referee and linesman and he did nothing.
The town supporters who must have doubled the attendance were subdued in the first but got right behind the team in the second.
We do have the basis of a good team but we need to get Hurst back into midfield he’s the type of player we so badly miss.
I hope Daniels makes a full recovery.

I completely agree with Jackie's assessment of the game so I need not add any more.

On the Coalville Twitter page I listened to an interview with their manager who said of the red card: "The first yellow was a ridiculous decision. He won the ball and their player came off second best".

I have forwarded the highlights to the incident and the evidence clearly shows that the Coalville manager and the referee are so badly wrong. He may have won the header but the simultaneous forearm smash into Daniels' face was nothing less than a disgraceful assault.

Indeed - eyes on the ball or not, their player led with his elbow raised as the ref must have seen, so therefore a straight red .. end of! (redcard)

Thanks Dan for highlights and interview.

For once all Pitmen fans are, I think, in agreement. Blatant red card.

:x

Oh, there's one dissenter here, and of course a few home fans who saw nothing wrong with it; vast majority (including neutrals and even a Strangers fan) agreeing red though

pitch looked awful
poor defending cost us, but we played some good football and were unlucky not to snatch a draw
we know how Lowestoft must have felt Saturday
hard game this weekend, I'll take the draw now
don't expect first class refereeing at this level most are to$$ers

The only thing worse than the pitch was that challenge.
Inevitably we conceded a goal form a corner. We got away with it on Saturday , but this needs addressing quickly.

Results have evened themselves out for us and given that all clubs have avoided defeat in both of their opening fixtures, it promises to be a competitive league this season I reckon.

A tough game on Saturday, but after that we have two home games that we must capitalise on before a tough game at Tamworth. The trick is to have 9 points In The bag by the end of the month as that will set us up for a decent season.
