No problems with the pitch, I glean from social media.

Ingenious!

Today was a bit of a free hit. Next week we play a team in good form and we have to get a win as Workington have dragged themselves back into the pack and so two relegation spots are realistically up for grabs.

Don’t think anyone expected to get anything today. Hopefully a good exercise in getting the team to gel and the lads fit. There will be more realistic battles to win. On we go.

Warrington 3 - 1 Hednesford

Not a surprise this one as Warrington extend their lead at the top of the table. The game was pretty even and of pretty low quality all round on a windy day and bumpy pitch. They scored from the few chances they had while we struggled to create very much at all.

Some grumbles that we weren't given a free kick just before the Frankenstein-like Amis scored immediately before half time but I suspect the video will show that Preston should have come and claimed the long ball. Likewise, we contributed to the killer third where Lupano gave the ball away and then needlessly fouled Tony Gray.

As at Bamber Bridge we worked hard but created little. Benjamin had a half chance at 1-1 but we barely threatened in the second half. There's a good spirit in the team though.

Warrington are rock solid at the back and don't concede many goals. Apparently one of their centre halves played for Inverness Cally Thistle last year and is easing into retirement by strolling around the NPL.

Kieron Wells had a day to forget. Terrible salmon pink boots that he swapped in the first half ("pink doesn't go with ginger" quipped Eve our physio) and then booked for kicking the corner flag in frustration, breaking it in two. Nearly as stupid a booking as their keeper getting a yellow after 86 minutes for time wasting with the game ambling to an end.

Funny ramshackle ground with the "no pies left" sign up very early. "It's all we eat" said one of their fans with the "Barmy Army on Tour" flag on display. At their home ground. It's awkward to get to for us on the train, especially when one is cancelled and the next is late and you have to run/jog all the way from town. Still, Victoria Park along the banks of the Mersey has a good play area and skateboard park for junior pitmen on the way back.

A definite foul in the build up for their first goal, but sloppy defending for the second and some calamitous decision making resulted in the free kick which led to the third.
